Rimouski, a paradise for cyclists

Countryside, coastline, winding roads, flat paths and steep trails… the Rimouski region has everything cyclists could want. With routes full of things to discover and a wide range of services, the area will delight sports enthusiasts, recreational cyclists, pros, and novices equally.

Do you like to admire the scenery as you ride? To the east, the 61.5-km Grand Circuit Maritime follows the coastline to Sainte-Flavie, climbs inland, and then returns to Rimouski via a fragrant, winding road. To the west, a loop towards Saint-Valérien offers 69 km of equally enchanting hills, but is more demanding for your calves. And kilometres of trails and roads with access to the beach allow you to cruise along the coast, breathing the salty air.

Do you prefer mountain biking? Discover a variety of trails for different skill levels at Mont-Comi Park and Mont-Saint-Mathieu Park. Or explore kilometres of trails with varying degrees of difficulty at the Bic National Park. All within easy access from Rimouski. And you don’t even need to leave the city to speed down the hills beside the Rimouski River on the L’Éboulis and Le Draveur trails.

Speaking of cycling in the city, you can combine urban life and nature without getting off your bike. Explore the trails of Beauséjour Park, the Raymond-Sirois trail and numerous signposted routes. Don’t worry if you don’t have a bike, you can rent a choice of models at sports shops and other recreational outdoor sites.

Of course, these paths are not reserved only for cyclists. You’re likely to come across walkers… and a host of other creatures you might not expect. Welcome to the enchanted world of herons, ducks, songbirds, deer, foxes and seals that often share in the daily life of Rimouski residents!
